Volunteer Programs
Volunteer programs are currently overseen by the Coordinator of Recreation & Volunteers. Volunteers are very valuable and we are always recruiting individuals and groups. Regardless of why someone wants to volunteer, each volunteer brings a high level of commitment to their role and the residents and clients benefit greatly from their contribution.
Volunteers represent the community to the residents and help show that the residents have not been forgotten by their community. Volunteers are important to the success of the various recreation programs. They “lend a hand” in many ways including bus outings, one to one visits, crafts and baking, therapeutic programs, and well as fundraising.
Family members are encouraged to participate as volunteers because it is sometimes an easier way to have a visit when doing things together.
How to become a volunteer:
- Be prepared to make a commitment to the volunteer program for several months, even if the involvement per month is limited.
- Complete an application form supplying references– applications are available at the Care Home at 7530 Hurd Street in Mission.
- Provide a criminal record check if requested. The facility will reimburse the cost involved if one is requested.
- Participate in orientation and training.
We have a Volunteer Appreciation event once a year to celebrate the many contributions of our volunteers and the countless hours they put in to make a difference in peoples’ lives.
