Special Therapies
There is a physiotherapist, Luk Stanek, who comes one day a week to review physical function issues for residents and recommends equipment that might assist in promoting independence. He provides direction to the activation aides who work 7 days a week and follow up on exercise programs, walking programs, etc.
A footcare nurse provides specialized toenail and foot care that is beyond the ability of the care aides to deal with during a bath. She will recommend to the family to seek a referral to a podiatrist if that intervention is needed.
A dental hygienist, Paula McAleese, assesses all residents’ mouths once a year whether they have their own teeth or dentures, and provides guidance to care staff regarding oral care. She will recommend to the family how to access a dentist or denturist if there are specialized needs.
A music therapist, Paul Gledhill, provides his support 4 hours twice a week using music as a way to enhance communication skills, social contact, and improve quality of life for residents who may feel isolated and tend to withdraw from the community around them.
