About
Pleasant View Housing Society
Pleasant View Housing Society 1980 (PVHS) is a charitable non-profit society incorporated in 1980 and registered under the Society Act of BC. It was founded by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 57 and the community of Mission.
The Board of Directors is comprised of 10 members. Five of whom are appointed by the Canadian Legion Branch 57, and five of whom are elected by the society members. The Board meets regularly throughout the year in order to review finances and general concerns. The Board is responsible for overall policy development and strategic planning which allows the staff to maintain quality of service, and to plan and develop new or changed services as needed by the community.
PVHS provides a variety of services including Pleasant View Care Home (PVCH), a 76 single room complex care facility which opened in 1981.
An Adult Day program is available twice a week at the Care Home. This program is designed for people who would benefit from social recreation with a group of peers because they are shut-in or too frail to get out to the more usual leisure options in town. It also gives family caregivers a break from the responsibility of care.
The kitchen at Pleasant View Care Home produces food for Meals on Wheels which are delivered by volunteers coordinated through Mission Community Services.
Pleasant View Care Home coordinates the use by several care homes of the Community Busy Bus. This bus was donated through fundraising by the Mission Rotary Club and the District of Mission in 1996. It makes it possible for residents of care homes to get out and enjoy community events and amenities.
PVHS opened Pleasant View Apartments in 1987. It is a 40 unit apartment building subsidized by BC Housing accommodating primarily low income seniors.
PVHS is a member organization of the Mission Association for Seniors Housing (MASH). MASH is an umbrella non-profit charity set up to help a number of groups work together to increase the availability of affordable housing options for seniors.
